Reassurance from Sport England
a reassurance from Sport England to NGBs that despite the Government announcement of a review of participation targets etc...............
There have been a number of developments over the past 48 hours that I wanted to update you on.
Yesterday, Hugh Robertson issued a statement on his priorities for community sport. He said that, using the extra money Government expects to flow through to sport from the Lottery reforms, Sport England will take the lead responsibility for delivering the participation legacy from London 2012.
The delivery of whole sport plans and driving a mass-participation sport legacy from the Games and subsequent world-class events will be the main priorities for community sport, with further announcements due in the autumn. This reinforces and underpins our drive to create a world-leading community sport environment and our current agreements with you.
You may also have seen in the media today the Minister’s comment that overarching sports participation targets are currently being reviewed. This is something that is happening in a wide range of policy areas across Government.
I wanted to reassure you that this review is not focused on the individual sporting outcomes signed up to by governing bodies as part of the 09/13 funding process. The Minister has made clear his total commitment to securing maximum value for money for the investment in community sport, and holding funded partners accountable. So it is very much business as usual in terms of your relationship with Sport England and the delivery of your plans. If anything, given the current economic climate, it is more important than ever that we can demonstrate that our funding is delivering the outcomes we have jointly promised.
I will keep you informed of any further developments, but in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact me or your Relationship Manager if you have any questions.

A message has been sent out by Jenny Price of Sport England, in reference to the cuts imposed on the DCMS.You will have read in the media that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and most of its sponsored bodies, are to make savings of three per cent from their Exchequer budgets in the current financial year. For Sport England, this amounts to £4.254 million.
It is our intention to deliver the majority of the savings through further reductions in administration and back office functions. This will be challenging, given the £20 million savings we are already delivering in our administration costs over the current three-year spending period. However, we understand that everyone must play their part in dealing with the overall fiscal challenge.
I wanted to reassure you that, in achieving these £4.254 million savings, we will not be reducing whole sport plan awards for 2009 -13. This is in line with our commitment to you, and Government, that our work with National Governing Bodies is at the heart of the strategy to create a world-leading community sport environment, and a meaningful participation legacy from 2012.
NGBs and the Pro-Actives
For those NGBs who have not yet got a full understanding of how the Pro-Actives are working with the National Governing Bodies and Sport England, a lot of explanation is available in the Regional Tracker.
This can be found at www.pro-activelondon.org under National Governing Bodies of Sport.
Well worth investigating including the link to the Sport England page on this partnership working.
